Lisa is a Swiss animation director based in London. They moved to the UK nine years ago to pursue a career in film and fell in love with stop-motion in the process. Lisa’s work consistently deals with themes of belonging and their experience of growing up queer in a rural farming village, as well as a celebration of the differences within the LGBTQ+ community.

 

Synopsis: Sam's search for identity gets interrupted by a mysterious neighbourhood fox. Together they embark on a magical journey to the attic to discover the surprising things they might have in common, and how to celebrate the ways in which they differ.

Shayla Nguyen and Lucy Bubalo are a Sydney-based animation duo and love gay cartoons! First starting their animation careers at UTS in the Design in Animation degree, they developed a keen passion for expressive character animation and adult animation. Informed by their experiences of queerness and mutual love of film, they aim to create stories that are playful and relatable.

 

Synopsis: During a girl’s night clubbing with her best friend Fiona, Viv spots her ex, Remy. Determined to keep the night going, Fiona helps score Viv a hot new babe to move on (and shove it in Remy’s stupid face).

Through the lens of diverse, non-binary lesbians, it showcases their struggles with physical acceptance, cultural pressures, and homophobia. The narrative emphasizes the symbolic power of costumes and dance as tools for inner awakening and liberation, illustrating the beauty and strength found in diverse identities. By following the journeys of these individuals, "Mx." challenges societal norms and questions how the fashion industry can lead the way in accepting varied gender expressions, ultimately portraying the ongoing fight for identity acceptance and understanding.

Ariel “Ari” Grubb is an interdisciplinary artist, animator, and director based in Boston, Massachusetts. Identifying from a young age as a puppeteer, storyteller, and performer, Ari’s work ranges from stop motion animation, sculpture, illustration, film, and anything in between. While varying in scale, style, and medium, all of Ari’s work comes from the desire to tell stories, and whether through animated film, interactive sculpture, or playful illustration, Ari relies on charming characters and a fantastical color palette to lure in viewers, and rewards those that take the time to uncover the hidden narratives. Ari lives and works out of Boston, MA.

Ina Srur is a filmmaker and student at the Universidad del Cine, based in Buenos Aires. They began studying film at age 14 and directed their first short under mentor Sebastián Chuffer. A two-time award winner at the UCINE Online Video Festival, Ina later served as a jury member and has led several student film workshops. In 2023, they directed their first professional short, "Tomi", and are currently in post-production on their latest film, shot in 2024.

 

Synopsis: It is a typical Friday in the lives of two teenage strangers who must resort to deception in an attempt to feel comfortable with their queer identities. They both end up at the same nightclub and come face-to-face with reality. Will they cross paths and find in each other the support they need?

Kylie Mungenast is an experimental/narrative filmmaker who grew up in the greater Boston area. Mungenast received her BFA in Film at the University of Tampa College of Arts and Letters, and went on to pursue filmmaking for her MFA at California College of the Arts in San Francisco. Mungenast’s acute concentration on directing the actor, her revisionist approach to classical genre, and her post-feminist exploration of queer loneliness stand among the notable stylistic traits of her filmography. In her pastime, Kylie Mungenast is always eager for opportunities to travel, and typically chooses destinations based on their proximity to famous roller coasters having ridden over 200 unique attractions across the United States.

Specializing in hand-drawn animation, Hasan creates films that dives into themes of spirituality, consciousness, sexuality, immigration and the human psyche through a Jungian lens. His work is rich with symbolism and often carries profound political messages, reflecting his deep engagement with both personal and societal issues. While doing so, he thinks that in a world where everything is becoming extremely fast and digital, it is a delight to work analogue and enjoy the slower process of making.

Synopsis: Follow Arama, guided by a mystical pomegranate tree, meeting a mysterious man. Along the way, Arama faces parts of himself, slowly putting together the puzzle of his identity. But before he is able to put everything together, will he manage to keep himself in one piece?
